Brandon Wolf (2008) bio not available Advisory Board Steven Strom, the Assistant Manager of the Houston Public Library Archives. James T. Sears an archivist associated with ONE. Dennis Klappersack, a local librarian. Who oversees the organizations finances: The general membership votes on and decides what monies will be utilized for public relations or other related expenditures, as well as any other major expenditures. The Executive committee meets and votes on expenditures such as archival supplies. The treasurer keeps the financial records of the corporation and is responsible for disbursing funds to pay the expenses of the corporation. Staff: We are an all volunteer organization and have no paid positions. 5. Volunteers: a. How many active volunteers do you usually have In preparation for our exhibits or events we have had a total of 18 volunteers working on various phases of the projects. This accounts only for people who were able to volunteer time and labor, it is not inclusive of those who donated or loaned items to the museum/ archives. Additionally, in the first year 9 more people have donated their time and energies to originally create the organization. b. What training do you provide volunteers Since the needs are so varied where volunteers are concerned (that is the work could be anything from building walls for exhibits to placing paper in plastic sleeves) the training is mostly a few minutes of discussion and possibly demonstration. Training for data entry is done by the computer committee using software specifically designed for our needs 6. Your Community: Describe the geographic area you serve We serve the Montrose area via a satellite exhibit within the Lesbian and Gay Community Center on Hawthorne Street. We also have a satellite exhibit at MarysNaturally on the corner of Waugh and Westheimer. We serve the Gulf Coast area of Texas. Because we have a presence on the internet we have the capability of reaching thousands of individuals who have access to computers. This includes online photographs as well as the archival materials. 7. Project/Program Information a. Describe the project/program for which funds are requested. What is its purpose? (half page maximum) Through a permanent loan from Judy Reeves, GCAM has at its disposal the majority of drag items once owned & worn by the late Tony Wadford, a.k.a. Queen Kong, a.k.a. Eartha Quake. GCAM, furthering the work of Tony and in his name, has created a closet of items (his and others). These items may be borrowed by those who would like to serve the community fundraising via the drag venue just as Tony/Eartha did for many years. The idea behind the closet is, for those who cannot afford due to health or financial reasons to purchase costumes for stage use, to have items available to borrow at no cost for single use purposes. The closet includes clothing, wigs, jewelry, shoes and purses. The clothing and wigs would need to be cleaned or set after use and this involves financial upkeep. We are seeking funds to enable us to keep this closet open to the community and items available in a safe and sanitary fashion for individuals use. It is estimated that cleaning would cost approximately $7-10 per item and wigs would cost approximately $35 each time they are set. b. Are there similar programs in your geographic area? If so, how does this program differ? (Please be specific as to how your program is not a duplication of existing services.) We are not aware of any other programs like this that exist in this or any other area. c. If direct services will be provided, how many clients are anticipated? It is impossible to tell how many clients will take advantage of this program. We have done a straw poll and there are many interested. d. How will the program be structured and staffed? How large a staff will be necessary? Will new staff be added to run the program? With the assistance of an attorney, GCAM has written a Temporary Loan Agreement to be signed by the client/borrower. This includes a return section which will note condition of items when returned to GCAM. There will also be a deposit request made to insure the item(s) return. A catalog has been created picturing all items available to clients. The items will be delivered/picked up and retrieved the same way. Currently we have approximately 26 outfits, 184 pieces of jewelry (some in need of clasp repair), 16 excellent quality wigs, 18 pairs of shoes (mostly high heels, some boots), and 18 purses. In addition, we have asked community organizations to donate an item to be included in the closet, giving them credit for the item which will become a part of the closet under Tonys name, and there has been a tremendous positive response to this. The current inventory listed above can easily be handled by one volunteer. If the need is too great there will be another volunteer available to help with the project. 8. Evaluation: How and when will the project be evaluated? We will only know the success of the project by the number of people who participate in it. We will keep records of when and how long items are borrowed. 9. Foundation Partnership: Part of the Foundations mission is to increase public awareness of the charitable generosity of its benefactor Jay Hollyfield and the Hollyfield Foundation. How would your organization inform the public about this grant? At this time we have already booked MarysNaturally for a fundraiser introducing the opening of the closet to the community. There will be refreshments, a show and some historic education at this function. Many entertainers will be wearing the items which will be available from the closet. Should we receive funds from the Hollyfield Foundation we would have signage at this function stating that this was made possible with the assistance from the Foundation. We would draw attention to that signage throughout the function at Marys, which is scheduled for September 9th, 2007, in conjunction with Tonys birth date. We would also have notations throughout the catalog making that same statement so people would see it each time the catalog is shown. 10. Certification: I certify that the information contained in this application is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge. I understand that significant discrepancies may result in the dismissal of this application.
